That Fish Place - That Pet Place started as a small aquarium shop opened by Bernie and Sandy Lebowitz in 1973 to make fish-keeping supplies more affordable for hobbyists, and it grew into an 88,000-square-foot retail store that draws visitors from across the US and Canada. Ownership passed to the founders' children and then, in 2015, to a group of longtime employees, so the business has stayed independently and locally controlled through every expansion. The fish room alone holds hundreds of display aquariums covering freshwater and saltwater species, live coral, and invertebrates, and the store is known for a touch-tank exhibit where visitors can handle a live stingray. Because of its scale, it functions partly as a regional attraction as well as a working aquarium shop, but longtime customers still cite deep livestock selection and staff who know the stock as reasons they buy here over ordering online or visiting a chain store.
